A TASTE FOR FEAR (DVD) bizarre futuristic erotic giallo thriller

This week we have a pretty weird one - a late Italian entry in the infamous giallo genre - but this one seems to takes place in a kind of alternate reality.  The filmmakers were going for the future I assume, but it ends up being like a weird bizarro version of the eighties where every one is a sleezebag.  This is the rare Japanese print that runs a couple minutes longer than the domestic release, but since it is from a Japanese source, below the waist nudity is censored..........

A TASTE FOR FEAR (1988)

A female fashion photographer who specializes in trendy soft core imagery is introduced to a muscular girl model by her ex-boyfriend who makes bondage films.  She asks the bodybuilder to model in her next shoot after they have a lesbian encounter, but she soon turns up bound, gagged and dead after accepting a job at another shoot.

A tough cop focuses his suspicions on the photographer's old flame, the bondage film maker.  It isn't long before another model is murdered, but this time a video disks shows up depicting the crimes.  The cop thinks he now has the evidence to nab his suspect, except the killer in the video appears to be a red-headed woman.

This truly bizarre erotic giallo thriller that takes place in an eighties version of the future where they drive slick electric cars and the cops use ray-guns.  Even with it's over-the-top eighties vibe, director Piccio Raffanini does succeed in pulling off some very slick and stylish photography creating a surreal world that is undeniably interesting. Stars Virginia Hey (The Road Warrior) as the photographer and includes a cameo role from Kid Creole.

FIREBACK (DVD) Vietnam POW ninja revenge insanity

Wow - this one is awesome.....well, if you are a fan of ridiculous Filipino action that is.  It stars Richard Harrison and some other regulars from the Filipino war trash scene and is directed by Teddy Page who made the hardcore PHANTOM SOLDIERS that we just released a few weeks back.....

FIREBACK (1983)

An American colonel stationed in Vietnam is showing off a new multi barrel gun when the Viet Cong attack during the demonstration and take him prisoner.   When he is liberated from the prison camp and finally taken home, the colonel finds that his wife has been abducted and he's being set up for a variety of crimes.

Hellbent on finding his lost love, the colonel jumps into to action and starts beating the hell out of various sleaze bags who may or may not hold any relevant information as to her whereabouts. The body count climbs as he hunts for answers, and now the police are eager to apprehend who they believe to be possible unhinged psycho.  The colonel eventually bust out his ninja gear to infiltrates the mansion of the man behind the kidnapping and proceeds to deal out some well deserved violent justice.

Richard Harrison (Scorpion Thunderbolt) stars as the colonel and Godfrey Ho regular Bruce Baron also shows up in this low-budget Filipino production directed by Teddy Page (Phantom Soldiers).  With its atrocious dubbing, nonsensical plot, and insane music, there is a laugh a minute for fans of the genre that can enjoy its reprehensible cinematic qualities.

DEMON WIND (DVD) satanic Evil Dead inspired demon horror

It has been awhile since we got to add some supernatural horror to the collection - and this one is definitely a worthy guilty pleasure. Way more gore and effects than you would expect, this Evil Dead rip-off delivers the goods and is definitely a must if you missed it went it originally was released...........

DEMON WIND (1990)

Guided by visions and fueled by a burning curiosity, a young man decides to investigate his familys mysterious past.  Along some friends, the group travel to an abandoned farm where several members of his family met with horrible fates decades earlier.

Upon arrival an old man warns them that the place is cursed and the Devil himself is said to possess the land, but the young man insists that his fate lies with the old farmhouse.  He soon realizes that his family was practicing black magic, and now the demons and the undead are beginning to attack again, killing or possessing his friends one by one.

With its diabolical undertones, heavy gore effects, and relatively decent acting, this Evil Dead inpired film is a cut above the normal uninspired horror entries of the time.  Demon hordes, magic spells, phantom fog, and horrible gruesome deaths pave the way for maintaining a dreadful atmosphere thoughout the film.
