ATOR, THE FIGHTING EAGLE (DVD) Joe D'Amato barbarian flick

We dug up this sword and sandal fantasy adventure this week from the late great master of sleaze Joe D'Amato. Although pretty tame in the sleaze department, this movie is certainly entertaining in it own way - try playing a drinking game of taking a shot everytime the little bear cub makes an appearance.......

ATOR, THE FIGHTING EAGLE (1982)

When Ator is born with the mark of a prophecy that states he will grow to vanquish the evil Spider King, he is given to a peasant family to raise and keep safe. The years pass and Ator and his sister have fallen in love and marry when finding they are not actually blood related. Ator's bride is kidnapped before the honeymoon begins, so begins his quest to get her back not knowing that he is starting to fulfill a greater plan.

Accompanied by a blonde tribeswoman and a fearless bear cub, Ator travels through the cursed, lawless lands battling zombies, warriors and witches. He must find the Shield of Mordor to face the wrath of Dakkar, defeat his minions, and battle the giant, ancient arachnid in order to get his wife back and fulfill his destiny.

Trash master Joe D'amato restrains his usual sleazy antics to directs this barbarian flick and cash in on the Conan craze of the time. Co-written with Michele Soavi (Dellamorte Dellamore), the film also has a welcome appearance from Laura (Emanuelle) Gemser, unbelievably funny fight scenes, and plenty of hilarious dialogue to make this fantasy romp difficult to dislike.
